"Mike Gardiner Memorial Fund."

At approximately 10:30 pm on April 5th, the neurosurgeon came into Pastor Mike’s room at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena and took some readings. He didn’t like what he saw (since the last CT scan and evaluation) so he ordered another CT scan immediately. While they were prepping Mike for the transport downstairs, Amy was able to arrive from the USC Medical Center and spend about 30 minutes with him before he left. This was a blessing as it took around 2 hours to get that transfer to go through to Huntington. After the CT scan the Trauma Surgeon had a meeting with all of the family to inform us of where things stood with Mike and his condition. He told us that the swelling in Mike’s brain has continued to get worse and made no signs of lessening and that the result of this swelling would lead to another cardiac arrest. It was very apparent to them that Mike’s condition would not improve, but worsen as time went on. Further confirmation was that he was showing no brain activity and after another diagnosis by a separate surgeon he was considered brain dead. Following this devastating report Amy was left with two very hard decisions: 1) Whether or not to go with the doctor’s recommendation to approve a Do Not Resuscitate order for when cardiac arrest did happen, and 2) Whether or not to allow the hospital to harvest his organs in order to help others survive. Those decisions finalized the fact that Mike would not recover and forced us to deal with this incredible loss. After much weeping and comforting, Amy came to the very tough decision to go through with the doctors’ recommendations. We were then able to spend the next couple of hours saying our goodbyes to Pastor Mike before leaving with Amy to her new room upstairs.

We believe that Pastor Mike is now enjoying full joy and glory in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he has longed to be with since the moment God rescued him from his sin. This is a difficult day for us all but one which we must also rejoice in as Mike is now with the One he loved more than life. In the end, Pastor Mike lived out what he preached: “according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:20-21).

Please keep the family in prayer as they walk through this very difficult and sad time.

Bea Olguin, one our beloved sisters in Christ, went home to be with her Lord and Savior.

Olguin, Beatrice
Born the 6th child of Adan and Fernanda Guerrero, January 1st 1928 in San Pedro, California, Beatrice Olguin slipped peacefully from her earthly bonds and entered the Kingdom of Heaven June 3rd, 2007, with her three sons and faithful caregiver by her side. She was a shining example of Christianity and motherhood, and her testimony for the love of Christ reached many people during her life, and will continue far into the future. Beatrice attended San Pedro schools in her youth, and graduated from San Pedro High School in the summer of 1946. After a 10-year marriage to Leonard Olguin of San Pedro, she was dedicated to raising her three sons as a single parent. She went to work for her brother at Mundo's Market in San Pedro, a small hot-food deli, famous for its traditional Mexican dishes. It would be there that Beatrice honed her cooking skills, to become one of the best cooks in town; a reputation that followed her to the end. In 1969, Beatrice began her career in re-housing, working on the Beacon Street Redevelopment project in San Pedro. For the next 20 years Beatrice would continue to climb the ladder of her career finally ending up as a Re-housing and Property Management Specialist, for the City of Los Angeles , working under former Mayor Tom Bradley. Prior to her retirement, Beatrice spearheaded her biggest accomplishment for the City of L.A, and paved the way for the building of the new Los Angeles Convention Center in downtown. She was recognized many times by the city, and received a personalized plaque of commendation from the mayor upon her retirement. Since having her children, and during the years that followed her retirement, Beatrice continued to do the Lord's work, by remaining active at Carson Bible Church , and cheerfully spreading the Gospel of Christ wherever she went. Even in her last days on earth, many people were touched by her spirit and dedication to her Savior, Jesus Christ. Because of her faith in God, countless hundreds of men, women and children have come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. We know she was welcomed into heaven with open arms. She is survived by three sisters; Estella Arreola of San Rosa, CA, Martha Gascon and Lydia Alvarez, both of San Pedro, and Edmund Guerrero of South Carolina, three sons; Lefty Olguin of Barstow, CA, Jerry Olguin of Port St. John, Florida, and Ed Olguin of Wilmington, CA, three daughters-in-law, 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and hundreds of cousins, nephews and nieces.
